Meet the Directors
Hamid Rehman is co-founder and Director of ETHNOS. He manages the team of minority ethnic specialist social researchers, recruiters and moderators, and is involved in all aspects of research projects.
Hamid's areas of interests centre on the development of strategies to reach out to
and work with people from minority ethnic and faith backgrounds. Hamid is particularly interested in issues that affect the Muslim community in Britain, from faith identity to Islamophobia, financial capability to demand for Sharia-based financial products and halal food, from media consumption patterns among young Muslims to the prevention of terrorism.
Before setting up ETHNOS, Hamid was Head of Ethnic Minority Health at the Health Education Authority (now part of NIHCE). He was responsible for advising the Government on public health issues relevant to ethnic minority communities, for developing national health promotion programmes and research strategies and for producing guidance documents on a range of issues affecting ethnic minority communities.
David Lewis is Director of Online Research at ETHNOS.
Prior to joining our team, David gained more than 10 years experience of delivering online and panel-based research
solutions to private sector clients, principally in the music and entertainment
industries. David has managed numerous national surveys, overseeing a fieldforce of interviewers. He has also conducted research across three continents and built a powerful global network of quantitative and qualitative research asssociates.
Since joining ETHNOS, David has built and maintains the UK’s first bespoke online panel of ethnicity. With a background in both qualitative & quantitative research, David has an in-depth understanding of and a wealth of experience in research methodology, especially in the fields of consumer and market research. His role ensures that ETHNOS continues to keep apace with the latest research technologies and offerings.
Marie-Claude Gervais is a co-founder and
Director of Research at ETHNOS. Prior to establishing the company in 2000, she was a Lecturer in Social & Organisational Psychology at the London School of Economics for seven years, where she also
read for her PhD.
Marie-Claude specialises in qualitative research and has particular expertise in the attitudes, behaviours and social identities of minority ethnic groups. She has published widely in the fields of health,
housing & homelessness and education in relation to minority ethnic and faith communities. She is particularly interested in questions of identity, perceptions of discrimination and community cohesion. She has presented her work at national and international conferences.
Marie-Claude designs and conducts qualitative research for both the public & private sectors. Her deep understanding of ethnicity informs all aspects of her approach to research - from design, recruitment and data collection, to data analysis, report writing and policy recommendations.
